Sandy beaches

The Foglia, known in antiquity as the Isauro, may well have given Pesaro its name, and it still runs through the north of the town to meet the Adriatic beside the harbour. On either side rise two coastal hills: the Colle San Bartolo to the north-west, now a regional nature park, and the Colle Ardizio to the south-east. Between them stretches a long sandy shore in three parts, the Baia Flaminia, the Ponente beach and the Levante beach, which has held a Blue Flag since 2005.

For anyone who has spent a summer here, Pesaro means evenings cycling along the seafront on one of the paths that earned it the title of Cycling City, then turning inland towards the Rocca Costanza and the house where Gioachino Rossini was born, Casa Rossini. There is the green of the Parco Miralfiore and the Villa Imperiale, and further along the coast the frazione of Fiorenzuola di Focara counts among the most beautiful villages of Italy.

At the far end of the Baia Flaminia, the San Bartolo drops green and steep straight into the sea.
