Ørsta Skisenter
Did you know that Ivar Aasen was born in Ørsta? So was Anders Hovden, and both stand in the village today, Aasen in Dyre Vaa's monument and Hovden in Anne Grimdalen's.
Hamneparken, the harbour park at the innermost end of the Ørstafjorden, is where the village meets the water, with the Sunnmørsalpene mountains rising all around and peaks such as Vallahornet and Nivane above the rooftops. In Hovdebygda, south-west of the centre, Ivar Aasen-museet documents the written culture of Nynorsk, and the newspaper Møre-Nytt is published here. Ørsta Church stands in the middle of the village, Møre Folkehøgskule and the regional high school bring in the young, and furniture, metal goods and food production keep the place working. Memorials such as Skovlhjul and Bøyestake keep older stories close, and Klesklypa, a clothes peg turned into public art, adds a lighter touch.
In winter the slopes of Ørsta Skisenter fill with skiers, and the planes come in towards Ørsta–Volda Airport with the mountains white on every side.
