Upper valley
Dovrebanen railway
Vang burial ground
Oppdal is known as the place where the roads and the railway meet in the upper valley: the E6 runs through the village, National Road 70 begins here, and the trains on the Dovrebanen line stop at Oppdal Station. The name says as much, from the Old Norse Uppdalr, the upper dale, and locals often call the village Auna.
There is a particular comfort in a village that holds everything in one place: the historic Oppdal Church, the school, the mall and the shops, Høgvangparken, Sentrumstrollet and the ancient burial ground at Vang. Around it lie the smaller villages of Vognillan, Fagerhaugen and Driva, to the west, north and south, with the peak of Hovdin among the heights nearby.
If you say Auna rather than Oppdal, this map was drawn for you.
