Known for

Odder Å

Odder is known as the town that never got its harbour: when it asked for help to dig a canal to the coast, the request went unanswered, and the town kept growing inland along Odder Å instead. First mentioned as Oddræth, it became a railway town when the line to Hou and Aarhus opened, and that line is now part of the Aarhus Letbane.

Odder Museum sits in the centre beside the water and steam mill, Odder Vand- og Dampmølle, which still stands as it did when production stopped. A short walk away, Odder Sognekirke borders the river, with an altarpiece of the Last Supper by Peder Jensen Kolding, and to the east stands the Grundtvigian free church, Odder Grundtvigske Valgmenighedskirke.

If you grew up between the pedestrian street and the river, or cycled out to Rathlousdal on a summer day, this is the map you already know by heart.
