Nyborg faces Storebælt, the Great Belt, from the very eastern edge of Funen, and the bridge across to Korsør begins almost at the town's doorstep. Everyday life here plays out in a compact centre of speciality shops, on beaches where families spread out on the grass with picnic tables at Grønnehave, and in the small woods the municipality keeps open to everyone day and night.

What sets Nyborg apart is that its castle is still at the middle of everything. Nyborg Slot was the seat of the Danehof, the medieval royal assembly, and for a time the town even served as Denmark's capital. Landporten still marks the way in through the old fortifications, Borgmestergården keeps another chapter of the town's past, and Nyborg Voldspil and the Kulturnat keep the centre lively. Out on the coast, Fyns Badestrand, nicknamed Costa del Nyborg, is a broad white beach made of sand pumped up from Storebælt when the bridge was built.
