Ferry crossing
At the northern end of Limfjordsbroen, the road bridge from Aalborg, Nørresundby begins: the centre with its church and its square, Nørresundby Torv, and beyond them the districts of Lindholm, Nørre Uttrup and Bouet. Many people simply count it as part of Aalborg, but it is a town of its own, with a daily life shaped by its connections: the station at Lindholm with trains to Copenhagen and Frederikshavn, Aalborg Airport just west of town, the motorway tunnel under the fjord, and football with Nørresundby FB.
Lindholm Høje Museet stands at Lindholm Høje, the settlement and burial ground used from the Germanic Iron Age through the Viking era – proof that people lived on this side of the water long before any bridge. For centuries the ferry crossing to Aalborg kept the town going, alongside inns, fishing and the salting of herring, and the heights at Skansebakken still carry the name of the old earthworks raised there in wartime.
Aalborg and Aalborghus lie across Limfjorden, but for anyone from Nørresundby the way home always ends on the north bank.
