New village

Neskollen sits right on the boundary between Nes and Ullensaker, northwest of the urban area of Årnes, with the E16 running along its northern side. The houses stand on Bøleråsen, and the village belongs to the old parish of Udnes and the rural community of Hvam.

Stein skole, now a museum, is a reminder that this corner of Nes had a life long before the new housing arrived. Neskollen itself is young: the village has been built up in recent years, and its primary school, Neskollen skole, opened in 2000. Three large kindergartens followed, one of them a nature kindergarten, along with Romerike International School. A small shopping centre holds one of the village's two grocery shops, a vet, a kiosk and a workwear shop, and the indoor athletics hall Nes Arena opened in May 2015. Båleråsen rises nearby.

For anyone who grew up here, the map of Neskollen is a map of short distances: from the houses on the hill down to the school, across to Nes Arena and back by the shops, all inside a few streets on the edge of two municipalities.
