Smokestack coat of arms
Warta river
Warsaw–Vienna railway
Myszków is known for heavy industry, so much so that its coat of arms shows four black smokestacks, two of them smoking, beneath the White Eagle, with ears of corn at the sides and a blue ribbon for the Warta. The town lies on that river, along one of the oldest railways in Poland, the line between Warsaw and Vienna, and it is the seat of Myszków County in the Silesian Voivodeship, though historically it belongs to Lesser Poland.
There is a feeling of a place still made of villages. Myszków only received its town charter in the middle of the twentieth century, and it grew by taking in Mrzygłód, Nowa Wieś, Będusz, Helenówka, Mijaczów and Ciszówka, settlements that had existed for centuries. Farmsteads still stand among newer housing, and some districts reach into the Jura landscape parks, in a valley between the Silesian Highlands and the Polish Jura. The rail station, the Palace of August Schmelzer and the neo-Gothic Church of St. Stanislaus are the points everyone knows, along with the Skwer Przedsiębiorców.
If you grew up here, your Myszków is one particular district out of many, and this map is where all of them finally fit on one page.
