Oldest Helgeland town

Walk the length of Sjøgata and the nineteenth century is still standing: wooden houses and piers along the water, the longest such row in Northern Norway, with Jacobsenbrygga and Politimestergården among them. Mosjøen is the oldest town in Helgeland, built on the edge of the great Mo farm, which for centuries belonged to the archbishops of Nidaros.

What sets Mosjøen apart is the way old timber and heavy industry live side by side. The aluminium plant, among the biggest in Europe, has long been the town's cornerstone, while Dolstad Church and the award-winning Town Park keep the older story in view. Vefsn bygdetun gathers the rural past of the surrounding valley.

Anyone who has stood on a Sjøgata pier with the ice-free Vefsnfjorden at their feet knows why that line of wharves is worth carrying with you.
