Walk down Bygata på Romsdalsmuseet and you are in the Molde that grew from a small landing where timber and herring were loaded for export. Romsdalsmuseet - Krona keeps that past close, while out in the fjord the Fiskerimuseet Hjertøya tells the fishing side of the story.
Molde is the Town of Roses, with a mild maritime climate that seems unlikely this far up the Norwegian coast. It is the seat of the county and of the bishop of Møre, home to Aker stadion and one of the country's top football teams, and was once a tourist destination that drew visitors such as the German emperor Wilhelm II. The town sits on the Romsdal Peninsula, wrapped around the Moldefjord and the Fannefjord.
Fiskerimuseet Hjertøya on its island, Kongebjørka in town, the stands at Aker stadion: these are the points someone from Molde navigates by, and the reason this map means more than lines on a shirt.
