Dorpstraat
Wickelhof
Ever told someone you are from Mijdrecht and watched them try to place it? It is the main town of De Ronde Venen, set between Utrecht and Amsterdam, a short drive west of the A2, with the Dorpstraat as its spine: shops, the municipal offices and most of daily life strung along one street. Its story goes back to farmers who settled on a dyke among water, ditches and lakes, a strip now known as Bozenhoven, right by the centre.
For many who grew up here, the feeling is of a place that kept growing around them. Proostdijland came first, then Hofland-Noord and Molenland, then the Wickelhof neighbourhoods with the Wickelhofpark at their heart. The old railway is long gone, but the station building still stands and buses now run along part of the former line. Small corners like the Wilhelminaplantsoen and the artwork Twee Elementen hold on to their own quiet stories.
Whether you left for the city or never moved more than a few streets away, this is your patch of peat-meadow country. Carry it with you, and let anyone who asks find it on the map.
