Lubliniec owes its name, folk tradition says, to Duke Władysław of Opole, who was out hunting in these woods around 1270 and declared that he would like to build a church and a town here. He did, on the road from Opole to Kraków, and one of Silesia's oldest towns grew up between the rivers Lublinica and Mała Panew.

Zamek Lubliniec, the castle raised by the Piast dukes, is where Poles briefly hid the Black Madonna of Częstochowa in 1655, during the Swedish invasion. Today it sits quietly within a town of everyday rhythms: trains rolling through one of the region's important rail junctions, Saturday shopping around the market square and Kościół pw. Świętego Mikołaja, and visitors seeking out the Muzeum Edyty Stein. A short walk away stands Kościół pw. Świętej Anny.

The forest is never far. The Lasy Lublinieckie surround the town on every side, and most of the land inside its limits is woodland, so a walk from home quickly turns into pine and quiet. If this is your town, you know that walk well – it is all here on the map.
