Løten Station
Løiten Brænderi
Rørosbanen railway
Have you ever stepped off the train at Løten Station and known exactly which way to turn? Then you know the village that the railway built. Løten is the administrative centre of Løten Municipality in Innlandet, east of Hamar, and the Rørosbanen line still runs straight through it.
What sets Løten apart is that it owes its position to a timetable. The village became the centre of the municipality after the station was placed here in 1862, and life has gathered around the tracks ever since. Ådalsbruk lies a short way to the south and Brenneriroa just to the northwest, and Løten Church stands a little outside the centre. The past is close by: Løiten Brænderi is now a museum, and Stenringen på Ven, an old stone ring, is an archaeological site from long before any trains.
Picture the evening train slowing for the platform, the National Road 3 humming along the northern edge of the village, and the church a short walk away to the northwest.
