Do you remember your first Festival Interceltique in Lorient, when the whole town seemed to be out in the streets? It grew into one of the largest music festivals in France, and for many people it is the first thing they think of when they hear the name An Oriant.

There is a pride here that comes from rebuilding. The town was almost entirely destroyed in the Second World War, after the occupiers chose it for the largest submarine base of its time, and it took until the seventies to put it back together. Before that came three centuries at sea: the French East Indies Company, the naval arsenal, then the fishing port of Keroman. The Tour de la Découverte, La Flore and the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly keep all of that within a short walk, and the Parc Jules Ferry offers a quiet patch of green in the centre.

Coming back along the roadstead, past the fishing boats and the racing yachts, is the surest way to know you are home in Lorient.
