Narew valley
Łomża Brewery
historic Masovia
A royal town of Poland and once the capital of the Łomża Land, Łomża has a Jesuit college that,, founded in the seventeenth century, lives on as one of the oldest high schools in the country. The town sits on moraine hills above the Narew, part of historic Masovia even though it now belongs to Podlaskie Voivodeship.
The Grodzisko w Łomży, an old fortified mound, takes the story back to the earliest days. From there, daily life spreads across the old town with its parks and stadium, the tower blocks of Południe and the family houses of Łomżyca and Kraska, where streets are named after birds. The Muzeum Północno-Mazowieckie w Łomży gathers the region's past, forts such as the Twierdza Łomża - Fort II survive from the old fortress, and the town lends its name to the Łomża Brewery. Just outside town lie the Rezerwat Rycerski Kierz and the woods and wetlands of the Narew valley.
Anyone who grew up here remembers the view from the escarpment down to the river, and the walk home through the old town afterwards.
