Blindleia waterway
Bystranda beach
Have you ever taken a boat through Blindleia? The narrow inland waterway runs up from Høvåg to Lillesand, a town on the Skagerrak coast between Grimstad and Kristiansand, where bays such as Breivigfjorden and Guttebukta cut in and Skogerøy-Lyngholmen naturreservat lies among the islands.
What sets Lillesand apart is how much of its seafaring past still stands. Sailing ships were built here, timber was shipped out and shipowners grew rich; Lillesand By- og Sjøfartsmuseum is housed in one of their old homes. Much of the centre is on the NB! register of Norwegian townscapes, Lillesand batteri recalls a guarded coast, and in summer Bystranda fills with swimmers.
From the viewpoint at Lille Skifjell the whole pattern of water, islands and rooftops lies below. That view is reason enough to wear Lillesand.
