Jatte honey
On the northern part of the Île de la Jatte, beehives produce the honey that Levallois-Perret counts among its local treasures, and bees appear on the town's coat of arms. It is a small, unexpected scene in the most densely populated town in Europe, a place where the Eiffel company once built the structures of both the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, and where Citroën turned out the 2CV for nearly forty years.
The town sits on the right bank of the Seine, pressed against the 17th arrondissement of Paris, with Clichy on one side and Neuilly-sur-Seine on the other; across the river lie Courbevoie and Asnières-sur-Seine, home of the Château d'Asnières. Apart from its share of the island, the whole commune fits almost exactly into a square one and a half kilometres a side, so everyday life happens on foot, between home, work and the river.
Come back after time away and Levallois closes around you at once: compact, busy and entirely familiar.
