Little Kraków
Krosno Glassware
speedway
Have you ever raised a glass made in Krosno? The town's glassmaking tradition became known as Krosno Glassware, and Centrum Dziedzictwa Szkła is where that story is told. Daily life here also turns on oil, aviation and motorcycle speedway, for which the town is a centre.
What makes Krosno unique is its nickname, Parva Cracovia, or Little Kraków. The square with its Renaissance cloth hall reminded visitors of Kraków's Old Town, and the preserved old town mixes Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. This was a Royal Free Town, a centre of the cloth, linen and Hungarian wine trade, set in the fork of the Wisłok and Lubatówka rivers. Kościół pw. Świętej Trójcy, Kaplica Oświęcimów and the Fragment murów obronnych keep the medieval town in view, and the Muzeum Podkarpackie gathers the rest.
On the map, look for the square on its rise, with three streets running north and three running south, each once ending at a town gate.
