Klæbu Church
The Nidelva river
KlæbuPosten
Have you ever crossed the Nidelva south of Trondheim and wondered whose church that is? It is Klæbu Church, standing in the village since 1790, and from 1838 Klæbu was the administrative centre of its own municipality, until it was merged into Trondheim Municipality in 2020.
What makes Klæbu distinctive is that it never quite became a suburb. It lies on the eastern shore of the Nidelva, a short way east of the village of Tanem and a good way south of the city centre, at the junction of two county roads. It still has its own newspaper, KlæbuPosten, its own primary school, Sørborgen skole, and its own lower secondary school, Klæbu ungdomsskole, so a childhood here can stay in Klæbu from the first school day to the last.
The village has the feel of a place that knows its own history. The church is its oldest landmark, and Svean Friluftspark is where people head when they want space and fresh air.
If Klæbu is where you grew up, this is your map, with the river, the church and the road back home.
