The manor at Jokioinen once ran the largest estate in Finland, and it shaped this corner of Kanta-Häme for centuries. Under Ernst Gustaf von Willebrand it gained its present main building and the first factories, a cloth mill and an ironworks, and by the early twentieth century it had its own corn mill, sawmill, brick works and sugar factory. After the estate passed to the state, crofters and tenant farmers received land of their own, and the politician Miina Sillanpää was born in one of its crofts.
The Jokioisten kartanopuisto still gives the old estate its shape, and Wendlan tarha adds another green corner. The Pappilamuseo and the Tapulimakasiini keep village life on show, while the Torpparipatsas honours the crofters. Agricultural science moved in later: plant breeding and an observatory found a home on estate land, and the municipality is also known for its museum railway and for the largest Buddhist stupa in Finland.
The Loimijoki runs through the centre, past fields that have fed the region for generations. When the river and the manor park come into view, Jokioinen feels like home.
