Three rivers
Medieval fair
Royal town
Jasło first appears in the record as Jasiel, a settlement belonging to the Cistercian abbey at Koprzywnica, and by the middle of the thirteenth century it already held a fair of local importance. King Casimir III the Great granted it Magdeburg rights and, in an exchange with the monks for Frysztak and two villages, made it a royal town.
What sets Jasło apart is the water. Three rivers, the Wisłoka, the Ropa and the Jasiołka, meet here among the hills of the Doły, and the town takes its name from one of them. Saint Anthony of Padua is its patron, Pałac Sroczyńskich and the Muzeum Regionalne w Jaśle im. dr. Stanisława Kadyiego hold its history, and the Muzeum Lizaka adds a lighter note. Its merchants once traded with Hungary across the nearby border, and the town has been burned and rebuilt more than once.
For anyone from Jasło, the meeting of the three rivers is where home begins – and where it is still waiting when you come back.
