Lake Vesijärvi
Tiirismaa, the highest point in southern Finland, belongs to Hollola, and its TV mast is the tallest structure in the country. It is also one of the largest municipalities in Finland never to call itself a town, and it feels that way. More than half its people live in Salpakangas, the municipal centre beside the highway, and many of the rest in villages such as Kukkila and Kalliola. Lahti and Lake Vesijärvi split the municipality in two, and the halves carry names of their own: Maakansa on the land to the west, Vesikansa across the water.
Pirunpesä, the Devil's Nest, is one of the places people seek out, and Hollolan Hirvi is another familiar sight. Messilä, on the shore of Vesijärvi, is where families go to ski, hike and play golf, and in the year Hollola hosted the Jukola Relays its forests filled with orienteers running through the night. For quieter walks there is the old-growth forest of Kintterönsuon aarnimetsä.
At Kiikunlähde, the small lake in the village of Uskila near Hollola's church, the water is clean enough that it is drawn for the taps.
