Hilly streets

Hobro sits at the head of Mariager Fjord, where the water ends among steep hills to the north and south. Streets climb away from the fjord in both directions, and the town has the feel of a place built into a fold of the land. It is an old market and railway town on the line between Aalborg and Randers, and the seat of Mariagerfjord's municipality, with the main north-south motorway close by.

Vikingeborgen Fyrkat lies just west of town: the earthworks of a Viking ring fortress, with Vikingecenter Fyrkat alongside to show how people lived there. Back in town, Hobro Museum keeps the story of the old købstad, and Gasmuseet and Lystfartøjsmuseet add a couple of unexpected detours. On match days, Hobro IK carries the town's name onto the football pitch.

If those hills taught you to cycle and the fjord was the view from your bedroom window, this map was drawn with you in mind.
