Fjord crossing
Havnø Mølle
Mariager Fjord
Stand by the water in Hadsund and you are looking at the reason the town exists: a narrow strait in the Mariager Fjord, where people have crossed from shore to shore since the Middle Ages. The name first belonged to the water itself. The farms that grew up on the north side were called Sundhusene, the strait houses, and only later Hadsund Husene. Today Hadsund is a town in eastern Jutland between Aalborg and Randers, with schools such as Tech College Mariagerfjord and VUC Hadsund, and employers including DAVA Foods, Nilfisk and Bodylab.
Havnø Mølle, west of the town, is the oldest windmill still standing in northern Jutland, built in 1842. Møllehistorisk Samling and Hadsund Egnssamling keep the story of the mills and the district, Hadsund KulturCenter is where the town gathers, and the manors of Havnø and Dalsgaard belong to the same fjord landscape. People have lived here since the Iron Age, and ancient sites such as Molhøj still mark the ground.
Grow up in Hadsund and the fjord becomes the line everything is measured by: north side or south side, Hadsund or Hadsund Syd. On the map, that thin blue strait is where your town begins.
