Hallingdal hub

Have you ever driven through Hallingdal without stopping at Gol? Almost nobody manages it. This is where the road down from Hemsedal meets the main road through the valley, where the Bergen Line stops, and where the shops and hotels of the dale gather in one place.

Gol sits at the meeting of routes in the middle of Hallingdal, the largest village in the valley and the centre of its own municipality. Its three black keys on the coat of arms come from the key of Gol stave church, a medieval church that was taken down, saved and rebuilt at the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. A modern replica now stands in Gordarike, the theme park in the middle of the village. Gol bygdemuseum, built around the old Skaga farm, keeps barns, lofts and stables from the old farming life, and Hallingglass is close by.

If Gol is where you come from, or where you stop every time on the way to the mountains, the map will show you the junction, the river and the hillsides above. Take it with you.
