Every design for Goes

Ever stood on the market square in Goes and felt as if half of Zuid-Beveland had come into town? The square has been here since the village on the edge of the Korte Gos creek first grew into a place of trade, along with a church devoted to Mary Magdalene. Goes is the centre of the island and of much of Zeeland: the farmers' town, the shopping town, the station on the line to Vlissingen. In Zeelandic it is simply Hoes.

Historisch museum de Bevelanden keeps the long story of the island in one place, from the cloth and salt that made Goes rich to the years it stayed dry while the surrounding villages flooded. Out of town, the Stoomtrein Goes Borsele still puffs through the farmland, while new districts such as Goese Meer and Overzuid show a town that keeps growing.
