Gallarate lies on the flat plain of Lombardy between Milan and the lakes, a few kilometres from Malpensa airport, with the hills of Crenna and the Ronchi rising on its northern edge and the little Arno, the Arnetta to locals, running through town.
Its position has always shaped daily life. Roman roads from Milan to Lake Maggiore passed this way; later the town became the capital of the Seprio and a market for cotton, flax and cloth, then a textile city. Today it is a railway junction where lines to Varese, Laveno and Arona meet, and part of its land belongs to the Ticino Natural Park. The old centre keeps its oval medieval shape beside the Basilica di Santa Maria. The Museo Arte Gallarate - MAGA brings art to town, the Castello di Crenna stands in the hilly north, and the Parco Bassetti and the Parco Usuelli are the green breaks between streets.
If you come from Gallarate, you know its trains, its textile past and its plain stretching towards the hills. This one is yours.
