About Franconville-La-Garenne

Known for

Montmorency valley

Known for

Rinvals woods

Known for

Parc Cadet de Vaux

Have you ever noticed that Franconville has no river at all? Not a single watercourse crosses the commune; instead, wooded hills give it its shape, with the buttes du Parisis to the west and the forested slopes of the Argenteuil hill to the south. Its name comes from the Latin Francorum villa, the town of the Franks.

For many people here, home is a handful of familiar places: the view from the Belvédère des Rinvals, the paths through the Rinvals and Saint-Marc woods, the Labyrinthe végétal and the old Puits Gallo-Romain. It is a town where the painter Marcel L'Enfant worked for forty years, that counts the astronaut Jean-François Clervoy among its notable names, and where the RER C at Franconville – Le Plessis-Bouchard takes commuters into Paris each morning and brings them back to the valley at night. Twinned with Viernheim and Potters Bar, it has friends on both sides of the Channel.

The Parc Cadet de Vaux, named after the chemist and philanthropist Antoine-Alexis Cadet de Vaux, is a name everyone in town recognises, and one worth carrying with you wherever life takes you.
