Førre takes its name from the old word for fjord, and fittingly it sits at the head of the Førresfjorden, a place once known as Førdesfjorden. The village lies along the E134, with Haugesund to the west and Aksdal and Grinde to the east, and with Kolnes, Stakkestad, Frakkagjerd and Stegaberg as neighbours on every side.

Arquebus krigshistorisk museum tells the story of the Second World War, and Førre Church, a neo-Gothic wooden church, stands in the village. The neighbourhoods of Førre Terrasse, Førre Hageby and Førresdalen are where most people live, and the farm at Stegaberg across the fjord has given its name to a school district and a sports club. Many who grow up here spend time in the scouts or with Stegaberg idrettslag, and Førre skole is the largest school in Tysvær.

Above it all stand Kiggjafjellet, Dyrafjellet and Krokvassnuten, the peaks on the skyline every day you lived here, and a good reason to keep this map close at hand.
