Gisund Bridge

Gateway to Senja

Known for

Finnsnes i Fest

Did you know that Finnsnes was a small farm community not much more than a century ago? Since then it has grown into the commercial centre of Midt-Troms, serving a wide region of villages and islands, and at the turn of the millennium it was granted town status, which is why it is sometimes called the millennium town.

There is a familiar feeling to the crossing: driving onto the long Gisund Bridge, the strait opening below, Senja ahead and Silsand waiting on the other side. Finnsnes itself sits on the mainland, facing the Gisundet strait to the west and Finnfjorden to the south, its centre gathered around the lake Finnsnesvannet and the park that rings it, with the town hall and Finnsnes Church close by. The Hurtigruten calls every day in both directions, and the express boats reach Tromsø and Harstad in little more than an hour. Every summer the week-long Finnsnes i Fest festival fills the streets.

Wherever you have ended up since, you still know which way the bridge leads home.
