Jarlsberg cheese
Hustadmarmor
Frænafjorden
Have you ever bought Jarlsberg in a British supermarket? The Tine cheese factory in Elnesvågen is the largest producer of it, and the cheese travels from here to the UK, the USA, Canada, Germany and Australia. The village is the administrative centre of Hustadvika Municipality, set along the Frænafjorden north of Molde.
What makes Elnesvågen unusual is how much the world needs from a small farming district. Alongside the dairy are Moxy Engineering, which builds trucks, and the Hustadmarmor marble factory, which makes calcium products for European paper producers. Around them the land is mostly fields, and Myrbostad Church, from 1880, stands in the eastern part of the village. Most people live in Hauglia, the big residential area, and the peaks of Klempertåsen and Måna are close by.
The best view of it all is from the mountains Heiane and Lågheiane, reached most easily on foot from Hauglia: the fjord, the factory roofs, the football and athletics stadium and the houses climbing up the slope towards you.
