Burg Dinslaken
Did you grow up in Hiesfeld, Eppinghoven or Lohberg, or right in the Innenstadt? In Dinslaken the answer says a lot, because this town on the Lower Rhine, at the north-western edge of the Ruhr, is made of districts that each have their own story.
Many remember the harness racing track, the town's best-known stage, or the coal mine in Lohberg, now closed for good. Others think first of Burg Dinslaken, the castle that once guarded the counts of Cleves' lands on the right bank of the Rhine, or of St. Vincentius, the medieval parish church rebuilt after the war. Even the name carries a memory of the landscape: it comes from the Laken, the ponds that dotted the town until the 1950s. The Museum Voswinckelshof keeps the longer history close at hand.
Haus Watereck, the Drei Kreuze, the castle, the walk home from school: put them together on one map and you have the Dinslaken you grew up in.
