Energie Cottbus
Cottbus is known as the largest bilingual city in Germany, where signs give the Lower Sorbian name Chóśebuz alongside the German one and the Wendisches Museum keeps Sorbian culture within easy reach. It is a university city on the Spree, the biggest in Lusatia, and on its edge lies the Cottbuser Ostsee, Germany's largest artificial lake.
Ask people here what they think of first, and many will mention a Sunday walk through the Branitzer Park, past Schloss Branitz and the Wasserpyramide, or an afternoon by the Spreewehrmühle where the river runs through town. Others will talk about football, because Energie Cottbus is the biggest sports club in Brandenburg, and almost one resident in five belongs to a club of some kind. For a city of its size, Cottbus has a remarkable amount of green.
If you grew up here, the map tells your story: the river, the parks, the streets in between and the great artificial lake on the city's edge.
