Choisy-le-Roi is known as the riverside town that sits on both banks of the Seine, a short way south-east of central Paris. The suffix in its name, 'the King', dates from 1739, when Louis XV bought the Château de Choisy and folded it into his royal domain. Long before that, the name came from Sociusacum, the estate of a Gallo-Roman landowner.

The Château Guérin is one of the names locals give when they explain where they live, a short walk from the water. Today the setting is greener than many expect: a cycle path runs along the Seine all the way to Paris, the Parc Interdépartemental des Sports - Plaine Sud opens up fields and running tracks to the south, and La ferme des gondoles brings farm animals within reach of children from across the Val-de-Marne. The river is everywhere, splitting the town in two and setting the pace for walks, bike rides and summer evenings on the banks.

If you grew up crossing the bridge to get to school, or caught the RER C here every morning, you know that Choisy is more than a stop on the line. This map keeps both banks together.
