Known for

Lake Mjøsa

In Brumunddal, Mjøstårnet stands taller than any other glulam structure in the world, a timber landmark that has put this small town on the shore of lake Mjøsa on the map far beyond Innlandet. Locals simply call the place «Dala».

What makes Brumunddal its own is the river. The Brumunda runs down from the highlands into Mjøsa, and its name may mean the river that roars. For centuries mills ground flour along its banks; the farm names still remember them, and flour from here was sold to the copper works at Røros. Sawmills, a brewery and a weaving mill followed, and when the railway arrived the town grew in earnest. Brumunddal is the largest settlement in Ringsaker, the administrative centre, and a town surrounded by farms and countryside.

By the Brumunda, Buttekvern mølle and Buttekvern naturreservat keep that milling story alive. It is the kind of place that makes people from Dala proud to wear where they come from.
