Every design for Brande

Ever walked to the library and passed a work of art the size of a house? In Brande that is just part of the daily routine, and has been since a group of locals decided that art should be out on the streets, free to see at any hour.

That is what makes Brande unusual for a railway town on the line between Vejle and Herning: its walls. A local doctor and a lawyer started the first murals, and with support from the Danish National Art Fund, artists began moving to town. People were sceptical at first, but the murals put Brande on the map, at home and abroad, and the town was elected Danish city of the year. Joy of life by Jorma Kardén decorates the library, Spines by Claes Birch can be seen in Borgergade, and Akrobatfantasi by K. Bjørn Knudsen covers the old town hall in Storegade. Brande is a working town too, home to the clothing companies Bestseller and BTX Group, with Sanseskoven and Ørbæklund for a breather.

Look up in Storegade and the acrobats are still there, tumbling across the wall of the old town hall.
