Urskog railway
Bjørkelangen was the end of the line when the Urskog railway opened, before the track was extended on to Skulerud, and the old station manager's house, «Bergan», still stands well preserved. The village sits at the northern end of the lake that shares its name, along the river Lierelva, and it became the administrative centre of Aurskog-Høland in the sixties.
There is a familiar feeling here for anyone who has grown up around these lakes: fishing in waters like Bjørkelangensjøen and Liertjern, the pedestrian main street, school at Bjørkelangen or at Kjelle, where agriculture and forestry are taught. On the east side of the Lierelva stood Eidsverket, an ironworks that later made glass. Since the seventies the village has grown fast, and KulturArena Aurskog-Høland now brings cinema, concerts and festivals.
Høgåsen to the west and the lookout at Grensehuken frame the map of home, and they come with you wherever you wear Bjørkelangen.
