Migrasjonsmuseet
Migrasjonsmuseet is a good place to begin in Bekkelaget: a museum given over to migration, to the people who left one place and made a life in another. Not far away, a memorial keeps the name of Hjalmar 'Hjallis' Andersen in view, and the artwork Escudo adds a modern note to the neighbourhood.
Bekkelaget lies by the water at Åkersvika, a bay protected as a nature reserve, with two beaches within easy reach: HIAS-Stranda and Sandvikastranda. It is a place where the shoreline is part of everyday life, and where a walk along the bay or a swim after work is never far from home.
