Paris building stone
Coulée verte
Métro line 4
Bagneux sits on the southern rim of Paris, wedged between Montrouge to the north, Sceaux and Bourg-la-Reine to the south, and Arcueil and Cachan across the departmental line to the east. The ground rises and falls gently here, and beneath it lies the stone that built much of the capital.
The commune sits in the south-east corner of the Hauts-de-Seine, and that position is part of its everyday life. The Coulée verte du sud parisien runs right through it, a green walking and cycling path that follows part of the via Turonensis, one of the old pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela. Métro line 4 now stops at Bagneux–Lucie Aubrac, and the Parc Sainte-Barbe and the old Maison de Richelieu give the town its quieter corners. The quarries under these streets supplied stone for the Madeleine, the Panthéon's columns and the Louvre.
For anyone who grew up here, the map holds the walk to school along the Coulée verte and the streets between the métro and home.
