Saline springs
Kneipp spa
Teutoburg Forest
Bad Salzuflen is known for its saline springs, which rise along old folds in the rock and have earned the region the name Germany's healing garden. The thermal spa town in the Lippe district counts as allergy-friendly, and its Staatsbad is now a certified Kneipp spa as well.
The town lies on the eastern edge of the Ravensberg Basin, where the Salze and the Bega meet the Werre. North-east of the rivers a wooded ridge of the Lipper Bergland crosses the town, rising to the Boberg, and the whole area belongs to the Teutoburger Wald/Eggegebirge nature park. Seven nature reserves, among them the Salzetal, the Glimketal and the Bexter Wald, keep much of it green. Bielefeld lies to the west, Herford to the north-west and Lemgo to the east, while village-like districts such as Wüsten and Wülfer-Bexten ring the spa town at the centre.
And then there is the Irrgarten Hortus Vitalis, a maze where children dash ahead round every hedge and the grown-ups pretend they know the way out.
