The Apocalypse Tapestry hangs inside the Château d'Angers: the largest medieval tapestry ensemble in the world. The château of the Plantagenêts still dominates the old medieval centre.

Angers is unusual for how much history it has packed into one riverside town. It was the cradle of the Plantagenet dynasty, and under René of Anjou it became one of Europe's intellectual centres. It stood as a stronghold of north-western France for centuries. Around the castle, the Collégiale Saint-Martin, the Galerie David d'Angers and the Musée Pincé keep that past within walking distance, while the Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine carries the weaving tradition forward. Today the city is also known for plants and horticulture.

If you are an Angevin, you know the castle towers better than any other skyline. Take them with you.
