Northern Sotra

Ågotnes is known as the industrial village of northern Sotra: home to the Coast Center Base, one of the main supply bases for Norway's oil industry, with a cluster of industrial firms built up around it.

The village lies on the northern part of the island of Sotra in Øygarden Municipality, a short drive west of Bergen. The village of Landro, with Landro Church, lies a little to the north-west. Ågotnes serves as the commercial centre for this end of the island, with a primary school, sports facilities, a fire station and a health clinic. Around it the coastline breaks into small inlets, Tranevågen, Heimavågen and Mathopen among them, and Harpefjellet rises over the landscape.

A village built around a supply base is a working place, and it is also somewhere people grow up. If that was you, the map holds the walk to school, the fire station, the sports ground, and the quiet water of Tranevågen a world away from the supply base.
